Doro unveils ‘groundbreaking’ Liberto 825

The Liberto 825 was launched in front of 10 people at a small event in London

Doro has unveiled the Liberto 825 handset which it claims is a “world first” for the smartphone market.

The Swedish manufacturer, who targets a senior audience of over 65s, launched the device in front of 10 people at an event in London on September 15.

It argues many mainstream smartphones force users to “adapt to new and un-natural behaviours when using the device,” including the process of using a new messaging app or taking a photograph. Doro claims the Liberto 825 is a “world first” because it “removes the requirement for any technical know-how” when performing these or similar tasks. It replaces app icons with verb icons, such as ‘call,’ ‘view’ or ‘snap,’ to represent actions. For example, the owner of a mainstream smartphone who wants to take a selfie will have to locate the camera app, open it, find selfie mode, take the picture and then locate the image. This process is shortened with the 825. Users simply tap ‘snap’ on the homescreen and are then given the option of taking a selfie. Doro claims this is the first smartphone to offer this ‘ground breaking innovation.’

Upon starting the phone for the first time, users are guided through a set up process aimed at making their experience with the phone much easier. They can set their favourite contacts, how loud they want the phone to be, the text size and more.

Doro UK and Ireland managing director Chris Millington said: “We are creating a new market opportunity through our fresh approach to intuitive smartphone design. This stunning device will naturally guide the user, through the use ofencouraging language to build confidence.

“We will continue to launch innovative mobile solutions specifically for the senior audience in response to the changing needs and desires of this hugely important audience.”

The device runs on Google’s latest Android Lollipop 5.1 operating system, it has an 8MP front camera, a 2MP rear camera, a give-inch screen, weighs 159 grams and comes with a 2,000mAh removable battery. it also has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory expandable to 32GB with a microSD card.

It will cost £250 SIM-free when it arrives in the UK from November. It will be available directly from Doro, but Millington declined to reveal where else it will be sold. Doro Liberto® 825 (1)
